What it is

This is a ceiling valance made from 100 percent polyester. The fabric is light and matte, so it hangs softly and does not catch a shine under kitchen or dining room lights. Each valance is printed on one side with a Japanese food scene, which gives a window a clear theme without blocking the light behind it.

The print runs across the full width of the panel. The top edge is ready to thread onto a rod, and the rod itself is not included, so you can use one you already have or pick one that matches your room.

Sizes

Three widths are available. Measure your window or the space above it before you choose, and add a little extra if you want the valance to extend past the frame on both sides.

Size Best for
59 x 16 in (150 x 40 cm) Small kitchen windows, breakfast nooks, camper and van windows
79 x 20 in (200 x 50 cm) Standard kitchen and dining windows, home bars
118 x 24 in (300 x 60 cm) Wide windows, open pass-throughs, long counter areas

The drop is shorter on the smallest size and longer on the widest one, so the valance scales with the window rather than looking like the same strip stretched out.

Prints

Twelve food prints are available:

  • Sushi and sashimi
  • Grilled eel and skewers
  • Beer and izakaya plates
  • Grilled squid and takoyaki
  • Vegetables and hot pot
  • Seafood and crab
  • Ramen and udon
  • Grilled skewers and octopus
  • Pickles and salmon roe
  • Sushi and matcha
  • Grilled sweet potato and sushi
  • Sweet red bean desserts

Each print fills the panel with small food motifs rather than one large image, so the pattern reads well from across a room. The colors stay in a warm, food-friendly range that sits easily with wood, white and dark kitchen cabinets.

Where it works

A valance covers the top of a window and leaves the lower glass open. That makes it a good fit for a kitchen window above a sink, a dining room window, a home bar, a covered porch, a tavern-style room or a camper and tent setup where you want a bit of theme without a full curtain.

Because the fabric is light, it also works as a ceiling valance or canopy trim in a small indoor space. Thread it on a rod, set the rod at the height you want, and let the print do the work. If you are covering a wide opening, the 118 x 24 in (300 x 60 cm) size gives you the most coverage in a single panel.

For a layered look, pair it with a plain curtain or blind behind it. The valance sits on top and adds the food print, while the layer behind handles privacy and light control.

Care

Machine wash cold. Hang dry. Iron on low if needed. Wash it with similar colors the first few times, and keep the iron setting low so the matte finish stays as it is. The print is on one side, so check the panel before you hang it if you want the printed face toward the room.

Questions

What size valance do I need for my window?

Measure the width of your window or the rod area first. The 59 x 16 in (150 x 40 cm) size suits small kitchen windows, the 79 x 20 in (200 x 50 cm) size fits most kitchen and dining windows, and the 118 x 24 in (300 x 60 cm) size covers wide windows and long openings.

Is the rod included?

No, the rod is not included. The valance is made to thread onto a rod you already have or one you buy separately.

Is the print on both sides?

The print is on one side only. The back is the plain reverse of the fabric, so decide which face you want toward the room before you hang it.

How do I wash it?

Machine wash cold, then hang dry. If it needs smoothing, iron on low. Keep the iron on a low setting to protect the matte finish and the print.
