A rectangular cloth on a round table bunches at the corners. This one is cut round, so the drop falls evenly all the way around and the tassels hang in a neat circle. The cotton-linen blend has a matte, slightly textured surface and a soft drape, and the white grid or stripe breaks up the color so everyday marks don't show.
Measure across the middle of the tabletop and add twice the drop you want. A drop of 7 to 10 in (18 to 25 cm) suits a dinner table.
With the leaf in, an extending round table turns oval, so use a rectangular cloth for those days.
All four sit comfortably with fall colors: add orange napkins, a wreath of dried leaves or a bowl of pears in the center.
Line the grid or stripe up with the edge of the room or a window, then walk around the table and check that the tassels sit at the same height all the way round. On a pedestal table a drop of about 8 in (20 cm) clears most knees; a deeper drop looks dressier but rests in laps once everyone sits down.
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle in a laundry bag, then hang to dry. Iron on medium from the back. Let the tassels dry hanging so they keep their shape. Returns are accepted within 30 days.
For a 48 in (122 cm) round, choose 63 in (160 cm) for a drop of about 7.5 in (19 cm), or 71 in (180 cm) for a deeper 11.5 in (29 cm) drop.
Measure straight across the center from edge to edge. That's the diameter. Add twice the drop you want to get the cloth size.
Only if the oval is close to round. A long oval leaves the ends bare, so a rectangular cloth of the same length is the better choice.
Stone grid is the lightest and coolest of the four and goes with almost anything. Oat grid is the warmest and looks best with wood and copper.
