Gingham has dressed American farm tables for generations, and this brown version leans into fall: the check reads as warm cocoa from across the room, and the cream lace edge softens the outline. It's a casual cloth, made for family dinners, pie on the counter and leftovers the next day rather than a formal setting. The small check hides crumbs and light marks between washes.
The fabric is a polyester-cotton blend. The polyester helps it keep its shape and color through regular washing, and the cotton gives it a softer hand than a plain polyester cloth.
Add twice your drop to the table's width and length. With a 55 in (140 cm) width, most sizes suit standard dining tables 34 to 38 in (86 to 97 cm) wide.
If two tables are pushed together for the holiday, measure them as one.
Brown gingham works with cream or white plates, wood boards and amber glass. Add one of our cheesecloth table runners down the middle, small pumpkins and a few candles in holders, and the table is set. For a lighter look on a second table, pair it with the Green Gingham Tablecloth.
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, ideally in a laundry bag to protect the lace. Hang to dry and iron on low while still slightly damp. Avoid bleach, which can yellow the lace. Returns are accepted within 30 days.
Most 8-seat tables are 36 to 40 in (91 to 102 cm) wide and 78 to 84 in (198 to 213 cm) long. Choose 55 x 98 in (140 x 250 cm) or 55 x 102 in (140 x 260 cm) for a drop of about 8 to 10 in (20 to 25 cm).
The polyester in the blend keeps creases light. Hang it straight after washing and most creases drop out; a quick pass with a warm iron while it's slightly damp gives a crisp finish.
Yes, for a porch or patio meal. Bring it in afterward, since long hours of sun fade dyed fabric and dew can mark the lace.
It reads as a medium cocoa brown checked with cream, warmer than gray and lighter than chocolate. Screens vary, so expect slight differences from the photos.
