The Christmas Plaid Tablecloth

What it is and what it is made of

This is a printed tablecloth made from 100% polyester. The surface is waterproof and oilproof, so spills from gravy, wine or melted butter sit on top instead of soaking in. A quick wipe with a damp cloth handles most messes between washes.

The print shows Santa and reindeer framed by red poinsettias and a plaid border. The palette runs through red, green, brown and white, which suits both a traditional red-and-green table and a softer farmhouse look with brown and cream dishes.

Sizes

Five sizes are available. Round sizes are cut for round tables only. Rectangular sizes are cut for rectangular and oval tables.

Measure your table before you order. For a round table, measure straight across the top through the center. For a rectangular table, measure the length and the width. If you want a drop over the edge, add that to your measurement. A drop of 6 to 10 in (15 to 25 cm) is common for everyday meals, and a longer drop works well for a holiday dinner.

Color and pattern

If you layer it, keep the cloth as the base and add a runner or placemats on top. The waterproof surface means a spill stays on the cloth rather than reaching the table underneath.

Care

Machine washable. Wash on a gentle cycle in cold or warm water with like colors. Tumble dry low, or hang the cloth to dry. Remove it from the dryer promptly and fold or lay it flat to reduce wrinkles.

If you need a crisper finish for a holiday table, press on a low setting with a pressing cloth between the iron and the print. Do not bleach. The waterproof and oilproof finish is part of the fabric, so wash it normally and let it air dry when you can.
